Garage Sale Saturday

If any of you know my Husband and I, you know that we love a good deal. One of our favorite things to do on the weekend is to go to garage sales. We like to go first thing in the morning to find the best deals.
Today we went and totally scored (in our opinion).

Here is what we came home with:

Lets break it down. We got this end table, a computer monitor, 3 matching picture frames, 5 board games, 1 PS3 game, 1 XBOX360 game, a jersey and a spider-man costume.

All this only cost us $30!

The monitor was a killer deal. Only $10 and its pretty much brand new.
We were hurting for a new monitor...bad!

The end table matches my room really well, so I am thinking for now it will be a nightstand. I still don't have any nightstands and I would really like matching ones but this thing was only $7 so it will do for now. I don't love the flower design in front but its only on one side so I can flip it around.

I wish they had another matching one but just my luck they didn't :(
Its a little beat up but I'm kinda diggin the distressed look.

My room is still far from where I want it to be but with this new table and the mirror my Mom bought me while she was here its starting to come around.

Now I really want some pretty glass table lamps like this:

Well its a work in progress.

Did you find any great deals at some garage sales???
I'd love to see what treasures you found.

Curb appeal

Well everyone, I have had such a busy but fun week. Like I said before my family came in town for the birth of my first ever niece and I got to enjoy their company all week long! I just took my Mom to the airport today which means that now its back to work!

Today I want to share my front door transformation with you. The front of our house is kind of boring! Tan and orange shades of rock with tan stucco and a tan front door with a tan railing...you get the idea. Well a few months back my Dad brought me this beauty all the way from California...

My Dad is a electrical contractor in California and does a lot of high end homes. Well often times his clients through remodeling have a lot of extra stuff sitting around and just hand it over to my Dad. Which means that this baby was completely free!! The only problem is that its measurements are just slightly off from our door. We would love to use this door but that would mean re-doing our whole entry. So for now I went with a simple fix to help with our tan overload.

Here is the house when we first bought it:

Now here is our front door:

It really is a simple procedure. Just wipe down your door good, take off all hardware and paint! I used Behr paint and primer in one in a straight black. Here are a few tips for painting your front door.
  1. Paint on a nice wind free day. Any little dust particles will show in your paint which is fine if you want a textured door :)
  2. Use a mini foam roller with a rounded tip to apply the paint. Seriously people this saved my life! It makes it so easy to get in all of the nooks of the door.

While we were at it we painted our outdoor light fixtures as well. Really spray paint is the only way to go for this project. Its pretty straight forward. Just remove the fixture and glass panels and spray.

Once that was all done I just added a few finishing touches like a nice wreath and some vinyl from Wonderfully Wordy.

I got this as a gift a few years back. Don't mind the dead flowers in the background, it still hasn't decided if it wants to be spring here :)

There is our start to adding some curb appeal to our home. We still have a lot we want to do like add some shutters, flower boxes and maybe replacing the vinyl railing with a rod iron one, but its one thing at a time! If anyone has replaced their front door before and has some advice I would love to hear it. Maybe someday we can make some use to that beautiful knotty alder door!

    Spring table setting

I finally got around to putting my Spring table setting  together.
I have gotten out of the habit lately of putting up seasonal decor and I now realized how much I miss it!
My table setting is simple but just my style.

I love to have my table set.
My table is so big that if I don't have a huge centerpiece it looks boring or empty.

I got my centerpiece from Rodworks. Actually now that I think about it my whole table setting is from there. The plant, duck, chick, plates and napkins all came from Rodworks. I love that place!!
I originally put this all on the table without the plate and it looked plain. So I put a matching plate underneath and it just made the whole thing pop!

This little chick is my favorite.
    So cute and so springy!

That's all I have time for today. I've got my family coming in town from California today and my sister is having a baby girl any day now (yay!) so hopefully it wont be long before another post!

    The Loft

This is our loft. Its right at the top of our stairs next to all of the bedrooms. It features an ugly disorganized entertainment center:

    and overflowing toy boxes:

For Christmas this year we got ourselves a new TV. Ever since then I have been looking online at the classifieds for a new entertainment center to hold our old TV. This weekend I finally found the perfect one!

We moved it in place, switched around some furniture and before we knew it we had a brand new room.
    Take a look:

And the best part is, it only cost us $150!! Where did we spend the $? All on this baby...

I love it! Its got a few nicks but its nothing a bit of touch up can't fix. We now have a place for all of the kids toys and its so organized...it has built in movie organizers inside.

I took these baskets out of Tatum's closet to store toys.

I moved the table and chairs under the window and added a lamp that we weren't using.

This horse stayed in place, its every kids favorite!

We brought this bookcase out of our room, where it was temporarily holding the old TV. It now is home to all of the kids books.

The shelf above has Tatum's framed art, my favorite!

On top of the bookcase is Tatum's favorite reading book. We read this book every night before bed, he can now read the first few pages by himself!

This room still needs some work. I'm thinking I want to make a window valance, cover the lamp shade, get some more baskets and maybe add some cute kid pics on the wall. What do you think?? What it this room lacking?
